Asda and Tesco 418g tin Wild Pacific (Alaskan) Pink Salmon price – update #2

December 2, 2011

Well, would you believe it! I didn’t manage to get to Tesco myself, but I am told by someone who did that the product is “out of stock” in the Launceston outlet yet again, less than 2 weeks since they re-stocked at £3.00/tin.
I wonder what price Tesco will be selling for when it gets re-stocked? Call me psychic, but I predict it will be around £1.57.

Asda and Tesco 418g tin Wild Pacific (Alaskan) Pink Salmon price – update

November 30, 2011

Tonight I received a phone call from Tesco Customer Services in response to an email I sent them regarding their aggressive pricing policy on the above commodity. Very apologetic, will pass it on blah blah blah………… then they said the Salmon was not showing on the website! I of course double-checked and lo and behold it was not there any more!. I will check out the store if I get chance tomorrow.
There’s something fishy going on here! (groan)
Watch this space, but most of all watch out for other mysterious goings on with supermarket pricing.
Perhaps we ought to start a Facebook community called My Supermarket Rip-Off or something?

Asda and Tesco 418g tin Wild Pacific (Alaskan) Pink Salmon prices

November 29, 2011

Now here’s a thing. A few weeks ago, Asda put up the price of Asda 418g tins of Wild Pacific Pink Salmon from £1.57 to circa £2.80!!. About the same time, Tesco ran out its stocks of their 418g tins of Wild Pacific Pink Salmon. As I buy this commodity weekly, I was very disappointed, especially as the Morrisons and Lidl versions of the same thing (though labelled Wild Alaskan Pink Salmon – the very same!) were still at around £1.57. I complained via email to Asda, only to get the stock reply:

“…….Here at ASDA we work hard to make our goods and services affordable for all our customers. For the past 11 years we’ve been voted Britain’s cheapest supermarket in a survey run by Grocer magazine.
There can be a number of reasons why it’s sometimes necessary for us to increase the price of a product. Usually it is due to raw material and running costs that are passed on by our suppliers…………”

Cobblers! I had done my homework – there was no significant increase in Alaskan pink salmon prices. Suddenly, the Asda price dropped to circa £2/tin. Tesco’s stock was due imminently.
I sent another email to Asda saying that I was glad that they had seen sense and reduced their price, albeit there was still an increase of around 25% and that I would be carefully watching theTesco re-stocked prices to see if there was evidence of callusion.
Imagine if you will my surprise when the Asda price dropped again to the level it was originally – £1.57/418g tin.
This must’ve caught Tesco on the hop, as their current price is £3.00/418g tin, an increase of nearly 100%!!!
Do yourself a favour – don’t trust your favourite supermarket and complain if you feel aggrieved. If you’re old enough to remember Wolfie & Citizen Smith:

Tesco – don’t buy wine, spirits or beer from Tesco unless on ‘special offer’

April 7, 2011

Price rises in the last week or so:

Tesco Reserve Shiraz was £4.00 now £5.75. What! almost 50% increase! IMO was only just worth the £4.00. Don’t touch it at £5.75, there’s plenty of better wines about. BTW, it’s advertised as ‘an everyday low price’. Bol***ks.
4x500ml cans Fursty Ferret was £4.99 now £5.99.
The price of 4x500ml cans of Hobgoblin? Don’t touch it unless it’s on special.
I’ll buy my alcohol from Asda in future.

Catherine Gee (who? I hear you say) Miranda Hart rocks!

January 3, 2011

Google says she has something to do with the Daily Telegraph.
I’m sure I’ve seen her on a property program once, which I quickly turned off because of that silly plummy accent.
She doesn’t like Miranda. I don’t like Catherine Gee. I do like Miranda.
Well Catherine Gee, I’d rather watch & listen to Miranda. She’s far more entertaining and also talks like what we do.
Miranda Hart rocks!

UK fuel prices – what’s going on? We’re being ripped off, that’s what

May 19, 2010

Oh dear! Uk fuel prices set to hit £1.30/litre. At the time of writing, that’s about 1.86 USD/litre, & 1.525 Euro/litre. Price differential between unleaded petrol and diesel in UK is virtually nil.
Have a look at the price differential in Europe, notice diesel prices on page 2.
